Everyone has a part to play and you can do better than the people around you, if you believe.

What's important:
1) Helping others with your abilities and not just with money
2) Looking good and of course important, that's basic self respect
3) Feel important and be useful, there's a place for everyone in this world, find yours
4) Love those worth loving, family, friends, idols, dogs etc
5) Stay true to yourself, that's an often overlooked source of happiness

What a coincidence

90th entry: 2may2007 23:57
listening to: boston - augustana

On the way home from volleyball training just now. I was reading 'A Long Way Down' by Nick Hornby on the train, and I realised the story is beginning to turn for the better.

The book is about 4 indivduals who happened to converge on the rooftop of a popular suicide spot in London on New's Year Eve. They were there to do one thing: to jump off the roof to end their troubles. All 4 of them have their own reasons to their misery. Where I stopped to get off the train, they were already off the roof, searched a few parties for someone important, made a pact to live till Valentine's Day where they will then decide if life has indeed changed for the better, and then make a decision whether to commit suicide again.

This story is rather convoluting and I really hope that the ending is a good one, something that really inspires and motivates readers to treasure life and love one another and themselves more. Actually I believe the ending is most likely to turn out positive, most fictional stories are anyway.

'A Long Way Down' isn't really a bestseller of any sort (although I enjoyed the movie 'About A Boy' which was adapted from the original novel by Nick Hornby too) and the coincidental part was.... I saw someone reading the same book as I was on the way home! That person was in her late-twenties I guess, and her index finger was between the pages of the book so I assumed comfortably that she was reading the book too.

I felt the urge to go up to her and tell her that I was also reading that same book too, however I contemplated because I guessed that Singaporeans are probably not comfortable with the idea of talking to strangers in public. Furthermore, I would also probably have found whoever damn weird to come up to me to inform me that he/she is reading the same book as me.

Whatever, my point is the coincidence was really cool because the book wasn't exactly a very common one, which makes me wonder how many people are actually reading 'A Long Way Down" at this same time. If you are talking about Dan Brown's novels, then it is a different case.

Alright, enough of the coincidence sh*t. Just came back from Genting with a bunch of cool SMU people haha, although it was a short trip it made me recharge enough to move on with whatever is here in Singapore. I still need another vacation when my internship and all the freshman orientation camps end in August.

I have quite many things on hand now I feel and I hate to think that I don't have enough time for the ones I love. I also hate to think that I don't have enough time for myself, which explains why I deliberately took the bus to training today instead of the train even though I was already running late. Anyway, the one-hour long bus ride was my little respite, my one-hour long of personal time, which I treasure alot it seems.

OK enough of ranting... I need to get back to preparing for tomorrow's tuition stuff, loads of marking to do and solutions to work out. Can't wait for their school midyear exams to be over...
