What's important:
1) Helping others with your abilities and not just with money
2) Looking good and of course important, that's basic self respect
3) Feel important and be useful, there's a place for everyone in this world, find yours
4) Love those worth loving, family, friends, idols, dogs etc
5) Stay true to yourself, that's an often overlooked source of happiness

Reflections over the lunar new year

42th entry: 01february2006 23:50
listening to: where are you - natalie and justin roman

happy chinese new year!! had some great fun celebrating this year's CNY cos i'm right in the mood for ORD (only 40 days left!! including weekends). the start of the lunar new year kind of signifies a start to my new life after leaving the army, the milestone that i have been waiting for so long. actually come to think of it, the past 2 years have been quite a breeze for me, guess i'm considered lucky to avoid all the sh*t. so much for cruising during NS, i believe it's time to shift to a different gear now.

the highlight of CNY2006 had to be the trip to sentosa on the second day of the new year! took many many photos with my family and with the many many flowers on display as well. the whole ferry terminal to the musical fountain was adorned with flowers of different sort and colors, and the view was simply breathtaking. but the weather was quite a killer and my parents were forced to carry umbrellas around. esp my dad who resembles a polar bear who can't stand the heat totally... however, we had so much fun taking pictures and just soaking up the sun. that's like a continuation to the previous year's photo marathon at the botero exhibition at cityhall/esplanade area also during the cny period. haha, cool! never thought my family could indulge so much in posing for the camera.

then today i went for corn removal at cgh. wasn't exactly a removal process though cos they pared my dead skin away and sprayed loads of liquid nitrogen. and it was excruciating painful lah!! to think that i've suffered enough pain for wisdom teeth (4 at one go) plus braces, i'm actually rather resistant to such pains, but today i squirmed in a corner and clenched my fists so hard, i couldn't believe the pain was even bearable!! anyway, still recovering from the ordeal this morning and i still have to go back for another round of liquid nitrogen torture in a month's time... arghh...

hmm alright, cny mood slowly wearing off but still i'm glad for this annual opportunity to meet up with relatives and friends and catch up on their latest endeavours. discovered that my uncle is working in a cool computing company (which maybe i can ask him to provide some job lobang when i ord!) and another uncle is migrating to aust and one of my distant relative is so so wealthy and a few of my cousins are getting smarter than me! and many other discoveries, including realising that my grandparents are all getting much older faster than i thought.. sometimes i just think are we really so caught up with work every day that we can only afford to see each other once a year? i believe the effort to keep up the family ties strong and sturdy is everyone's responsibility and more often than not we always overlook this important piece in our lives. in this new year, i'll try to make a change to the close ones i treasure in my family, before CNY 2007 arrives and i start realising and regretting...
